WLKY - Sports Reporter/Photographer

WLKY is looking for a Sports Multimedia Journalist who can generate story ideas, convey those stories in a compelling visual way, and has live shot experience. We are seeking a self-motivated individual who understands the pace of a deadline-driven newscasts and is dedicated to impactful storytelling.   The ideal Sports Reporter/Photographer is an accurate, ethical, compelling storyteller with a team attitude. The right candidate loves telling stories and delivering them live to the viewers. This person will produce content on-air, and on all our digital platforms. We are looking for someone who can shoot and edit video and present the story and other sports news in a professional manner. This position is our primary sports photographer, but also has the opportunity to shoot sports packages and potentially fill-in sports anchor. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Gather information and video for stories and live reports - this position is nights and weekends. 
  • Put together high quality stories (packages) or vosots on a daily basis    
  • Coverage of breaking sports news and everyday sports news 
  • Develop relationships with local high schools to generate compelling local sports stories 
  • Develop relationships with local college and pro teams  
  • Shoot live shots with TVU equipment 
  • Must prioritize maintenance of all photographer gear and editing equipment, as well as maintain and care for station vehicles.
  • Willing to cover news when needed 
  • In-person attendance is required

Experience Requirements:

  • At least one year sports reporting, photography and editing for television - must have on-air experience reporting sports

Qualifications Requirements:

  • Works quickly and efficiently
  • Good personality.  Must connect with viewers
  • Must enjoy being part of a team. 
  • Excellent writing and visual storytelling skills
  • Must be able to provide samples of live sports reporting and photography. 
  • Ability to shoot and edit high quality video  
  • Can deal with the stresses and pressures of time-sensitive newscast production

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field.
  • Military training from Defense Information School (DINFOS) will be considered
