Sports Video Journalist/Reporter
WLKY is looking for a Sports Multimedia Journalist who can generate story ideas, convey those stories in a compelling visual way, and has live shot experience. We are seeking a self-motivated individual who understands the pace of a deadline-driven newscasts and is dedicated to impactful local sports coverage. The ideal Sports Reporter/Photographer is an accurate, ethical, compelling storyteller with a team attitude. The right candidate loves telling stories and delivering them live to the viewers. This person will focus on generating high school sports content, but also cover local college teams. He/she will produce content on-air, and on our digital platforms. We are looking for someone who can shoot and edit video and present the story and other sports news in a professional manner. This position is our primary sports photographer, will turn stories daily and fill-in sports anchor on the weekends.
Responsibilities:
- Gather information and video for stories and live reports - this position is nights and weekends.
- Put together high quality stories (packages) or vosots on a daily basis
- Coverage of breaking sports news and everyday sports news
- Develop relationships with local high schools to generate compelling local sports stories.
- Develop relationships with local college and teams.
- Shoot live shots with TVU equipment.
- Must prioritize maintenance of all photographer gear and editing equipment, as well as maintain and care for station vehicles.
- Willing to cover news when needed
- In-person attendance is required
Requirements:
- Works quickly and efficiently. Be a great communicator.
- Good personality. Must connect with viewers.
- Must enjoy being part of a team.
- Excellent writing and visual storytelling skills
- Must be able to provide samples of live sports reporting and photography.
- Ability to shoot and edit high quality video
- Can deal with the stresses and pressures of time-sensitive newscast production
- At least one year sports reporting, photography and editing for television - must have on-air experience reporting sports
- Hearst Television is a proud supporter of military veterans. Related military training and experience will be considered
- Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field. Experience covering local sports at a television station is a plus
